Cane Creek Redundant Waterline Project

Overview

The City of Hendersonville proposes to construct a new 12-inch waterline connection along Mills Gap Road to improve the reliability, resiliency, and long-term sustainability of water service to the Cane Creek Industrial Park area in the Town of Fletcher. The project will replace the existing waterline connection serving the industrial park with infrastructure located on dry land and designed to provide more reliable access to critical water service.

The existing City-owned waterline is located along Cane Creek Industrial Park Road and currently rests at the bottom of Cane Creek. Its location makes the infrastructure particularly vulnerable to flooding, waterborne debris, erosion, and other environmental impacts associated with future storm events. The proposed waterline will be relocated to Mills Gap Road, removing the infrastructure from the creek and reducing its exposure to water-related damage. This relocation will provide a more durable and resilient waterline connection while improving the City's ability to maintain and protect the system.

The project will include the construction of a new 12-inch waterline connection along Mills Gap Road and associated infrastructure necessary to establish reliable service to the Cane Creek Industrial Park. The proposed 12-inch waterline will also provide operational and maintenance advantages compared to the existing 14-inch waterline. Twelve-inch waterline materials, fittings, and replacement components are more readily available through local and regional suppliers, allowing the City to obtain necessary materials more quickly when repairs or emergency maintenance are required.

These improvements will enhance the City's ability to respond efficiently to future waterline damage or service interruptions. By relocating the waterline out of the creek and utilizing a more readily serviceable pipe size, the project will reduce vulnerability to future storm impacts, improve emergency response capabilities, and minimize the duration of potential water service disruptions.

The completed project will provide a more resilient and maintainable water connection for the Cane Creek Industrial Park while supporting the continued operation and economic activity of businesses within the area. The improvements represent a long-term investment in critical water infrastructure and the City's ability to provide dependable water service during both routine operations and future emergency events.
