AN INNOVATIVE EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT & SUGGESTION PROGRAM

The City of Hendersonville Hendo-vation Program is designed to encourage and recognize employees who propose procedures or ideas that, if adopted, improve our work effort as a City.

Participants must complete the Hendo-vation Suggestion Form to be submitted on-line (below) or manually and sent to the Human Resources department during October 2018.

The HR Coordinator will serve as a resource for employees looking to gather data, improve their application or answer general questions.

The employee will be notified that their suggestion has been received and the time line for future review meetings. The Service Excellence Design Team will meet the second Wednesday in November to review submissions. The employee(s) making the suggestion are encouraged to attend to answer questions and give feedback. Suggestions endorsed by the Design Team will then go to the Hendo-vation Selection Committee for a final decision on implementation.

Eligible suggestions must benefit the following:

  • Save time, labor, materials or supplies
  • Improve methods, procedures or equipment resulting in increased output and/or efficiency
  • Eliminate unnecessary procedures, records and forms
  • Improve revenue (think is terms of a five year payback)
  • Improve safety/health
  • Improve service to the public

Ineligible suggestions are:

  • Those that call attention to a problem but do not suggest an acceptable solution
  • Those calling for enforcement of existing rules, policies and procedures
  • Those proposing adjustments in salaries, job classification or terms and conditions of employment
  • Those that are within the scope of the normal job responsibility of the employee
  • Suggestions that cannot or will not be implemented because they are not practical or there are insufficient funds to implement suggestion
  • Suggestions that are duplicate to another suggestion within the last year

Cash payouts:

  • Upon final review by the Hendo-vation Selection Committee, suggestions that are endorsed will be scored based on importance, urgency, impact and number of departments/employees/citizens affected and the cost/effort of implementing the improvement. The scoring will be related to the tiers below.
  • Tier 1- $100
  • Tier 2- $200
  • Tier 3 – between $300 and $500

All suggestions shall become the property of the City of Hendersonville and shall not form the basis of a future claim upon the City of Hendersonville by the suggester/employee, his/her heirs, successors or assigns, including suggestions which are subsequently patented.
